Radiation curing (or energy curing) is a rapidly growing technology with a wide range of applications in the surface coatings industry e.g uv curable inks (uv inks) uv and eb functional and decorative coatings for paper, wood, plastics, metal etc. DavRad Services is a consultancy service for the radiation curing industry with the consultancy taking the form of:
The training courses are aimed at familiarising clients with various aspects of uv curing and electron beam curing (eb curing) such as terminology, types of uv lamps, application methods, choosing the right materials to suit the end use. |

Staff Details The consultancy is run by Dr. R Stephen Davidson, Emeritus Professor of Applied Chemistry (University of Kent at Canterbury UK) and Emeritus Professor of Organic Chemistry (City University, London UK). Much of the early research work carried out by Dr Davidson was concerned with photoinduced electron transfer reactions and in particular the photoreactions of carbonyl compounds with amines. With the extensive use of such reactions (e.g. as Type II initiator systems) in radiation curing, he commenced research on the uv curing of inks with a well known ink producer. Subsequent projects have led to an accumulation of knowledge in the general field of radiation curing, relating to free radical and cationic curing systems, the synthesis of photoinitiators, diluents and prepolymers and the development of analytical methods for determining the degree of cure and assessment of the reactivity of systems. The development of the analytical methods was crucial for developing an understanding of the mechanism of e.b. curing and hence producing simple guidelines for formulators operating with this technology. |

Dr Davidson has published over 200 research papers in refereed journals as well as being a regular contributor to RadTech meetings. He has, together with Dr Richard Holman, tutored on the Radiation Curing course run by the Paint Research Association since its inception. Dr Davidson is a Chartered Chemist (C. Chem.), Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (M.R.S.C.), Ph. D. (Leeds) and D. Sc. (Leeds) |

If the above courses do not match your needs, please contact us to see if the appropriate course can be designed for you. Cost of courses: The half day course, "Familiarising Yourself with Radiation Curing" is £650.00 plus VAT. The full day course, "A short course on Radiation Curing" is £800.00 plus VAT. The quoted prices are exclusive of travel and accommodation costs incurred in the site visit by Dr Davidson. For a specifically designed course, the cost will reflect the extent to which extra preparation is involved and extra material has to be supplied. The costs are subject to change and therefore a written quotation, valid for 2 months is given when a the running of a course is requested General Consultancy Dr Davidson is available for consultancy on a wide range of topics associated with radiation curing and can also perform customised surveys of recent reports in the literature. The usual daily rate at the company's premises is £500.00 plus VAT, plus travel and accommodation costs associated with the consultancy. Charges are also made for searching and processing material, providing reports etc. which is carried out off site. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have a problem with which we may be able to help.
